From the 1st to the 3rd of December 2016
, during SUNS EUROPE 2016, the Minority Languages Art Festival, Udine will be the beating heart of Europe, creativity and linguistic and cultural diversity once more.
Suns Europe will award a prize to the best productions in minority languages of the European continent and will bring to Friuli the visual, literary and musical expressions of Europe, that wanted to be truly united in its diversity. It will be an opportunity for individuals, groups, languages, territories, and minority communities and nationalities across the continent to meet and exchange views, talking about themselves and their perspectives of the world through their own languages. Sounds, visions, words, ideas, expressions of existing and resilient identities.
This year, SUNS Europe wants to build bridges between individuals and associations and institutions belonging to different minorized language communities, from the Mediterranean to the North Pole and from the Atlantic to the Urals; it will focus on music, TV and movie productions and the works revolving around written and spoken words, including fiction, poetry and drama.
Along the path leading to the event at the end of November and early December, several events will be held in the rest of Europe, in line with Suns Europe’s identity, that is basically a traveling festival. These include the event dedicated to song in Alpine and Mediterranean European minority languages, launched in Udine in 2009, which has become a sort of regional pre-selection for the music section of Suns Europe, that this year will take place on 19th of November
in Trentino, in the Ladin-speaking Val di Fassa, and will be called Suns Ladini
SUNS Europe 2016, launched under the auspices of dell'ARLeF, coordinated by Cooperativa Informazione Friuliana and in collaboration of a number of public and private institutions based in Friuli and other regions of Europe, such as Cooperativa Punto Zero, the Municipality of Udine, Teatro Nuovo Giovanni da Udine, was granted the patronage of the Secretariat General of the Council of Europe and the EFFE brand, the quality label for European festivals awarded by EFA, the European Association of festivals.
